Machen and the founding faculty in the common room
Oswald T. Allis, Rienk Bouke Kuiper, J. Gresham Machen, Allan A. MacRae, John Murray, Ned B. Stonehouse, Cornelius Van Til, Robert Dick Wilson, Paul Woolley
In an email received 3 JAN 2019 from Mr. Sandy Finlayson, Director of Library Services & Professor of Theological Bibliography at Westminster Theological Seminary:
“…the faculty from left to right are John Skilton, John Murray, Ned Stonehouse, Cornelius Van Til, R.B. Kuyper, Paul Wooley, E. J. Young and Meredith Klein.”
Therefore the photo cannot be of the "founding faculty," and Machen was not included in it.
Sandy also identified the portrait on the wall behind them as Robert Dick Wilson.
Since 1) Wilson passed away in 1930 and machen in 1937; 2) Skilton did not join the faculty at Westminster until 1939, and 3) Kline did not begin teaching there until 1948; then I would conclude that this photo had to be dated circa 1948 or after.
This is now available as an e-sword module. See here . Author:Gresham Machen e-Sword Version: e-Sword 9.x and above The Origin ...
John Gresham Machen
Nicknamed Das (as in Madchen)
Thought that the liberals were sin'ster
And so started Westminster
There once was a teacher called Machen
He must have been blessed with quite thick skin
When his name they'd abuse
For anti-modernist views
He carried on preaching salvation
God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble
